A chaotic 1–6 player co-op adventure where wizard roommates battle monsters, race, tackle odd jobs and cause magical mayhem to make rent before their Imp Landlord loses patience.
Broke Wizards is a 1–6 player online co-op action-adventure from 5TH Cell, the creators of Scribblenauts. Players share a home as wizard roommates and take on an unpredictable mix of jobs, including monster-filled combat encounters, magical races, prop hunt, music sessions and a wizard-themed mobile snake game. It is all in the name of paying rent to a giant Imp Landlord.
My primary focus was multiplayer networking and the gameplay systems that make the shared world feel responsive and cohesive. I built a wide range of features across combat, AI, transformations, racing, social activities, customization and mini-games, making sure they worked reliably for every player in a session.
Beyond owning individual features, I regularly supported the wider team by strengthening existing gameplay systems, improving implementations created by other developers, resolving integration issues and adding the polish needed to turn separate mechanics into a consistent co-op experience.
What I worked on
- Developed and maintained core multiplayer networking and replication across the co-op experience
- Created Slitherin', an in-game mobile snake game with its own multiplayer lobby
- Built the Raven Race and Hoverboard Race gameplay systems
- Implemented playable werewolf, raven and vegetable transformations
- Developed spells and combat abilities using Unreal Engine's Gameplay Ability System
- Created more than 15 AI-driven monsters, each with distinct behaviours and abilities
- Built a multiplayer music mini-game that lets players perform together on instruments
- Implemented an adaptive music system with separate idle, combat and night themes
- Developed the character customization system
- Created a soccer game mode with tackling, goals and multiplayer match logic
- Improved and expanded gameplay systems built by other developers, resolving issues and adding polish across the project
